GMM Client Response

"Dear Alfred:

Wow: What a weekend!

Your sage advice is already being put to work and I look forward to show the improvement soon..

I want to be a great reporter, great employee, great client and a great man. Our two-day session not only reinforced my beliefs, but fueled my fire.

I am so looking forward to the future. Many thanks."

"Dear Alfred:

I just wanted to drop you a quick note saying thank you so much for the wealth of knowledge you shared with us over the weekend. It was like being given a map to the treasure that lies within me.. (i.e. "My instrument") I no longer will hope I get better now I actually know what to do to get better and that is a major part of my battle.

I have met with hundreds.. millions... okay not that many consultants and I learned more from you than all of them combined. I feel privileged that you saw something in me worth developing and I can't wait to put everything into practice.

I feel rejuvenated about my career and ready to reach new heights. If I had to begin again, I would be honored to do it with you."

"Dear Alfred:

Thank you so much for inviting me to the Holiday party at Patsy’s! I really enjoyed seeing you and Sandra.

Corny as it sounds, you mean a lot to me, both professionally and personally. You’ve taught me a great deal about the business… and how to handle my affairs as a pro … and a “stand-up” guy.

If I had to begin again, I would be honored to do it with you."

"Dear Alfred:

I feel honored that you decided to take me on as a client. Thank you so much for a wonderful workshop. Your passion and commitment to your work is inspirational. You’ve made a big difference to me and I am so grateful to you that I start the new year with such enthusiasm."

"Dear Alfred:

I can’t remember the last time I learned so much in 48 hours – and that includes my four years at Yale! The training session was simply spectacular and I am just so very, very honored to be part of the Geller family. Looking forward to going all the way to the top. Much love and many thanks."

"Dear Alfred:

Two weeks later and I’m still thinking about that incredible two day session. It has made a huge impact on my life, not just in my career but in everything I do. I’m truly inspired to be the best I can be."

"Dear Alfred,

A million thanks to you for the last two outstanding days of invaluable learning, insight and advice. It was truly inspiring and I can’t wait to use all that you taught. This is going to be a lot of work and equally as much fun!"

"I wanted to thank you for all the valuable information I learned in your two-day session. I appreciate your time, your enthusiasm, your wonderful storytelling and your insights. The session was inspiring. I’m more determined than ever to be the best journalist I can be and work hard on my craft.

I wouldn’t have the new job and I sure wouldn’t have improved as much as I have had you not taken me on."

"Dear Alfred,

Thanks for opening my eyes."

"Dear Alfred,

Thank you for inviting me to attend your 2 day Seminar in New York. Although skeptical of Agents & Personal Managers upon arriving – I left with a deep appreciation of your competence, experience, integrity and know-how of what it really takes to make it to the top.

You were able to cut through all the bull and tell it like it is. I can’t tell you how refreshing this type of candor and honesty (or brutal honesty as I like to call it) is, in an industry where people often gloss over the facts. You created a compelling vision and clearly articulated what it would take to translate that vision into reality. I thought you had a true sense of mastery of the task at hand. I learned that true learning sometimes begins with unlearning – freeing ourselves from old habits in order to become masters rather than slaves of our own lives. William James said: "Genius…means little more than the faculty of perceiving in an unhabitual way.' He was right. You demonstrated how things we learned in the past can not only inhibit us, but make fools of us because they all teach us how not to be ourselves. You, on the other hand, stressed the importance of individuality, warmth and the human quality – expressing stories from your heart and not the TelePrompTer – simply being real – as anything less will surely be magnified by the lens.

In my thirteen years of working and meeting people in the broadcasting industry, I can honestly say that I have never met someone as sharp as yourself when it comes to critiquing on- camera performances. You proved you can spot “a phony” in less than 2 seconds. It is comparable to a musical genius who can hear an off-tune note instantaneously.

Thank you again for educating, informing and inspiring me. I truly see this as a new chapter in my career – the chapter where I become “part of the solution” wherever I am working, know who I am, what my strengths and weaknesses are, and am able to fully deploy my strengths and improve my weaknesses in order to achieve my goals.

I am happy to have someone of your caliber representing me, and I am prepared to work very hard to apply everything I've learned to my career. I will now continue doing everything I've been doing -- only BETTER!"

"Dear Alfred,

I know you get dozens of these "thank you" letters after your two-day sessions, but I wanted to take the time to let you know how tremendously that weekend has impacted my life.

For all seven years of my broadcast career, people have been saying: "You need to work on your voice." They throw that statement out there and expect me to know what they mean. Try as I might, year after year, it never "clicked" for me. After all, I had been using that voice all my life, and had no idea how to "fix it." That was until your two-day session. It was as if I had always been living with blinders on, and you suddenly removed them. There's a whole new world out there and, for the first time, I feel "the solution" is within my reach.

Mind you, I also recognize I'm not "there" yet. If you taught me anything that weekend, it is that I have a lot of hard work ahead of me. But for once in my career, I feel the hard work is leading to a better place. To a job where I will be happier and more confident in my role as a newsroom leader. Alfred, you taught me that "I CAN do this thing!"

I wanted to write this note, to let you know how much I appreciate your help that weekend, but I won't bore you with details of all the little light bulbs going off in my head since then. Instead, I will make you this promise: As the weeks pass, I will show you what a difference you have made in my life by sending you my work. And with every improvement, large or small, I hope you will then understand that you were the missing link to making my dreams come true.

Words cannot express my gratitude."

"Dear Alfred,

Wow!

You have so stoked the fires of my career passions that I can hardly contain myself. What an amazing two days of restoration!

Thanks so much for giving me entree into your keen insights and analyses of the business. Your observations and advice are right on target, and very enlightening. As a journalist, trained to be skeptical, I can honestly say that there was nothing you said that didn't wash with me. It's almost scary how your perceptions about on-air people mirror my own.

I am looking forward to working with you over a long haul, and know now that I am in the best hands possible. I only hope that I can reward your confidence in me. I certainly will do whatever is necessary to accomplish that.

My favorite sociology prof from college started his first lecture by saying: "From this moment forward your perceptions of the world will be irrevocably altered and enriched. You will never see things the same way again." And he was right. You could have started the Saturday morning session the same way and have been equally accurate."

"Dear Alfred,

Words fail me in very few situations – but a few words would fail to communicate the depth of emotion and insight that I experienced (and am experiencing) from your weekend marathon. It was nothing less than an act of spontaneous generosity and genius.

First, you are a master presenter. I consider myself a good platform speaker but you are right up there with the best of the best - Billy Graham. The genius of an orator is storytelling and connecting with your audience and you have that talent in spades. Add to that your coaching ability which is in a league with Vince Lombardi. Just like Lombardi, you established authority, charmed the audience, presented the material, won everyone’s trust and then challenged us to be the best that we can be. No wonder your people turn out like Lippizaners.

You talked about things no one else stresses, or means like this is a long term relationship." No one says that unless you walk in with a $2 million dollar contract for them to negotiate. But you, Alfred, I truly believe are in this for the long term. You are a coach, a developer, a visionary, and a valuable human being who has that rarest of qualities – the ability to spot talent and to help shape it into its highest potential.

I came away from your program inspired, hopeful, smarter and filled with understanding about all aspects of my career. It helped me to have a vision about the future and an understanding of the past.

Up until this weekend, I was pleased to have you represent me. When you signed me on, I felt excitement mixed with the trepidation that comes from having worked with the famous agents.

Now I am honored to be one of your clients and to know that you truly are not an "agent". The fact that you, knowing all that you do, have chosen to work with me, brainstorm career strategy, read my faxes and proposals, gives me great confidence and strength about what the future holds. I will make a promise: I will work my butt off to deliver for you. Just help me get me in the doors."

"Dear Alfred,

Just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed the session in Beverly Hills.

To say it was "very useful" would greatly understate its importance. I really believe it is launching a whole new career for me.

I put your suggestions into practice immediately –- and immediately my anchoring improved 200%!!

My voice is now about an octave lower (or at least it seems that way) and the negative head shaking is gone!

I am so jazzed I can hardly stand it!

Thanks again."

"Dear Alfred,

Let me first say how much I enjoyed my weekend in New York and the opportunity to meet with you in person. Your seminar proved to be the single most inspirational event my career has received in a long, long time. I say that after only being home one week. A week that has felt an incredible, if not HOT fire burning under my - you know what!

I left New York feeling focused, energized and confident; and as you guaranteed, my first Monday on the air was my sharpest performance ever coming off an extended weekend! I am still somewhat shocked and highly pleased with your apparent fondness of my work. I look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Geller Media Management, Inc.

In all sincerity, thank you for your time and effort."

"Dear Alfred,

I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this past weekend—instructional, motivational and practical. No one has ever helped me like that before."

"Dear Alfred,

Thank you so much for everything – you and your staff are the best!

Without your guidance and expertise this job wouldn’t have happened.

I am proud to be represented by GMM."

"Alfred,

What a wonderful weekend with you and the group. I am truly blessed. I’ve had the honor of being with several very special people in my life—

I worked a little with Stella Adler, (after Yale, even though she taught there at the drama school) and she was extraordinary.

Then I was incredibly lucky to have become a friend of Martha Graham’s in her later years. And we would sit and gossip like old hens……but what she said, and what you say are exactly the same thing – "The body never lies." "I can teach a dancer only so much, what makes a dancer special (or not) is something that is unique to that person that comes from inside—from who they are." And now you…and perhaps none of it is luck. It’s a like—mindedness. There are so few people in our business who even understand why "spirit" and "soul" are important. No one talks about them. And to hear you talk about that, and respect the uniqueness of everyone who comes your way. You not only give people permission to be themselves, but also show them how to be the best they can be and be true to themselves. Well...you see—I am truly blessed to be with you."

"Dear Alfred:

Thanks to you - your help, encouragement, enthusiasm and ideas - what could have been the worst year of my life has instead been filled with bright spots, hopes and dreams."

"Dear Alfred:

Last weekend’s session was phenomenal. I left asking myself what have I done to deserve the pleasure of working with Alfred Geller. You’re even better than your impressive reputation.

I want you to know that those of us attending the session discussed how happy we were with the weekend. You made each person there feel special. I was especially impressed with your method of tape evaluation. You studied each personality and then approached that person in a caring and positive way. You really did make us feel like a family with one wonderful, caring, and wise father at the top. And for that, I thank you.

Most importantly to me, you listened to my dream. I won’t let you down Alfred Geller. Beginning now by working with Sam Chwat, I will prove to you that I have a passion for this business like no other. I am honored to work with you, and I know with you as my mentor, all of my dreams will be achieved."

"Dear Alfred:

This has been one of the most exciting weeks of my professional life. Last weekend’s session filled me with the enthusiasm, determination and focus I had somehow lost. Just like Manerva said during the session, I too had buried myself in excuses and a bit of self doubt, I must admit. But I’ll tell you, Monday a whole new day dawned for me.

I took a long, energetic bike ride to the library and read the Wall Street Journal, LA Times, and local paper. That has now become part of my morning routine and I’m just thrilled to do it.

I’ve also pushed the envelope during my 11pm shows, and holy smokes! I guess I really do have it in me. I feel like I’ve just crawled my way up to another level of understanding about anchoring.

I wanted you to know the seminar was a turning point for me. I wish it could have lasted longer, I truly enjoyed listening to all your stories. Thank you again for your time, patience and help. I hope I can do you proud."

"Alfred:

Thank you for your time and wisdom this past weekend. I had a great time, learned a lot, and perhaps most importantly, have a new energy about my job and my career. I’m excited about using many of your ideas.. I know that with them, I can win."

"Dear Alfred:

I am beginning my new good habit of writing notes – with this thank you note to you.

It’s hard to express how much I feel I benefited from this weekend’s seminar. It was among the most productive two days I’ve ever spent. It’s as if you knew everything I had questions or concerns about.

At first, I was a little discouraged when you said I needed to go home and "find" my voice. I didn’t know what I should do. But, I’ve been experimenting and trying to incorporate what you spoke about during the seminar. I, too, have been walking around with my mini-recorder working on my voice. Actually, I’ve been singing a lot - to try and get in touch with my more POWERFUL notes. And, you were right! I needed to go home and "find my voice." The key is – "my voice." So its something I’m comfortable with and something that isn’t phony.

I’ve also been applying much of what you said to my live shots. Now, I feel when the anchors come to me, I am introducing them to my space. They are guests in my live shot – the way guests are visiting an anchor’s "home" during an interview. It makes me feel more in control and confident. I even got a compliment from the Assistant News Director about my Monday live shot.

It’s like your sports analogies… great athletes have coaches who work on all aspects of their game. Before, I felt like I was throwing and catching… sometimes in the right direction… often, in the wrong direction. You’ve provided me with a game-plan… a philosophy. It is also very obvious how much you care about your clients - which I think is very rare."

"Dear Alfred:

I want to thank you for such an inspirational two day session. You covered a vast amount of information that is vital to the success of my career. It was great to see a group of people striving for what I want to achieve - EXCELLENCE in my career. An EXCELLENCE you know oh so much about! I cannot wait for the next session."

"Dear Alfred:

Aloha! Hope everything is well in New York. I just got on the Internet and wanted to pass along my address.

While I'm here—I thought I’d let you know how I'm doing in Honolulu. I am working very hard and getting better everyday. I look at the notes from the March workshop about once a week. They are always helpful.

Liz has been tremendous help too. I'm glad we’re working together.

First of all thank you for a weekend that is unprecedented in my career. I learned a lot, met some wonderful people, and I WATCH MY WORK IN AN ENTIRELY NEW WAY!"

"Dear Alfred:

Thank you again for a fabulous weekend! I’ve been in this business for 21 years and have never known anyone to devote so much attention and energy to clients.

I know I’m in the best hands possible and will take your suggestions very seriously.

I'm motivated, exhilarated, and ready to take the next step.

Thank you again for all your efforts – they are greatly appreciated."

"Dear Alfred,

A note to say the workshop in Beverly Hills really enlivened me. I learned more at that 1 workshop – than the past 13 years in this business. I especially like the fact that you preach about ALL aspects of the news room – not just reading technique."

"Dear Alfred:

I know you already know, but I felt the need to tell you how much you touched me last week.

This is a very emotional time for me, job insecurity, death in the family. Thanks for helping to open my eyes to where they must be, so I can, and will, reach my network goal. I felt for so long that I was beating my head against a wall, and not understanding why. Painful, but necessary lessons learned. Now the task, to take the power into my own hands, with your and Liz’s help, and sell myself as the complete package.

I promise to work hard at releasing that side of myself. I can feel I’m already changing. My life depends on it!

A thousand thank-you's for your help, care and counsel.

With much appreciation."

"Dear Alfred:

Many thanks for dropping many "pearls" in my direction at the new client seminar a few weeks ago. I’m sending you a few pearls by way of South Africa, courtesy of the great Nelson Mandela. I thought often of his words as I listened to you talk abut guiding our voices and becoming the best we can be.

I left your office – as I think we all did – carrying a new tool box. I thank you for the gift, but am also grateful that you resisted issuing explicit instructions on how to use its contents, how to swing a hammer or bang each nail. The process of discovering what I can do – using television not as one "necessary evil" I once thought it was, but as the most powerful tool in the box – will be a wonderful experience.

Along those lines – I am concentrating on my voice and feel I’m heading in the right direction though not quite there yet on a consistent basis.

I want to thank you for the seminar April 20-21st. I learned more that weekend than I have from my years of experience in this business! I went back to work with a new attitude. And by the way – the hug was something I truly needed! Thanks.

I’m anxiously looking forward to the next seminar!"

"Dear Alfred:

Thank you so much for the seminar. Your vast knowledge, energy and enthusiasm are wonderful to behold.

After it was over I realized with amazement how much information you had seamlessly weaved in – without one moment of boredom!"

"Hello Alfred:

Again – your full day session was a pleasure. Thanks for all of your hard work in making sure I work hard for my future. And here’s to another successful year together!

Thank you for all your help this year, and especially at the recent meeting in Los Angeles. I appreciate both your honesty and your encouragement — you give me a lot to work on but also the feeling I can accomplish the goals set forth.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!"

"Alfred:

As usual, a very good session on Saturday. Like before I’m eager to put it all to use again and concentrate on the copy instead of just reading it.

I’m glad I made the trip from California.

Again – thanks for all your help."

"Alfred -

What an adventure, to be the best that one can be."

"Alfred,

Just a note to tell you how much I learned over the weekend. Remarkable… and enjoyable."

"Alfred:

I just want to thank you for your tremendous seminar. You worked very hard to help me during those two days – now it’s my turn to help myself. Here’s to success!"

"Dear Alfred –

I made it back to Arkansas… I survived a weekend in New York City!

I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all your help, advice, encouragement. I learned a great deal about myself and this business... very productive weekend."
